First day of the shoot is over and we are still standing! Brilliant day. So brilliant that even the godawful weather couldn't bring us down. The energy is just right, Dave is on the money in every take, Mitzy is a goddess of an AD, Cassandra is the glue that binds the production together, and our crew...
Well, our crew is the very definition of a dream crew. Jeff, our Production Sound Designer, is the consummate professional with back muscles that would make Hulk blush. David, our AC, is young, quiet and unassuming, yet utterly brilliant. He can carry twice his body weight in equipment, has more tools on his belt than any handyman I've ever known, and can follow focus like nobody's business. Michael is all energy and industry. You need it done, he gets it done. Simple. Indispensable. Then there's Pasha. The heart and soul of the crew. You can tell that this isn't work to him. He lives and breathes images, always has a devious grin on, and eggs everyone on to do the best they can. Oh, and he's not above a really good 'that's what she said' line.
Lessons learned today:
- All you need to run a film crew effectively is a espresso machine
- Meal time is 'leave me the f*&k alone' time. People need to chill and re-energize.
- Unless you're shooting between July 1st and July 5th, have contingency plans in place in case it snows.
- One can develop a disturbing amount of affection for those magnificent LED lights.
Bring on Day 2...
Not to mention the importance of an excellent director! Rouzbeh is a piece-of-work, that's for sure. Getting this thing off the ground is not a small feat and while he's new at this, Rouzbeh rolls with the punches and that's what really counts.
ReplyDeleteRouzbeh- I hope you're blushing!!:)
